”In 1492 Columbus Sailed the ocean blue,” so the song goes. Christopher Columbus is the Italian explorer, who under the Spanish flag discovered the Americas. Columbus was a chart maker because of this he became convinced that the world is spherical, round instead of flat. This belief later became the basis for his quest of finding a shorter route to Asia. That was Columbus’s purpose to find a short trade route to Asia. He was correct in his assumption of the earth being round, but he had no idea there was this large mass of two continents in blocking his path. The first recorded celebration of Columbus Day in the United States took place on October 12, 1792. Organized by The Society of St. Tammany, also known as the Columbian Order, it commemorated the 300th anniversary of Columbus's landing. Since 1971 Columbus Day, designated as the second Monday in October, has been celebrated as a federal holiday. In many locations across the country Americans parade in commemoration of the day. Columbus Day party supplies like paper plates, napkins, and cups are a nice way to complete a Columbus Day Party Theme. Party decorations using Columbus Day Party Themes like inflatables as a centerpiece, can also double as party prizes. Party favors like Columbus Day stickers or badges fit a Columbus Day Party Theme.
