Eighties Party Theme
One of the more popular themes of the 80s was nerds, which lends itself to a fun party theme that has a multitude of possible Eighties Party Ideas. Invite your guests to the party using old floppy disks (you can probably find some at your local thrift store), writing the necessary party details in metallic pen right on it. Ask everyone to come dressed as a nerd, and be prepared to play the part as well. Then, deck out your space in nerdy remembrances of the Eighties, such as fluorescent balloons and crepe paper streamers, Rubik’s cubes, Smurfs, and ‘Just Say No’ posters. Make sure to have M&M’s, Skittles, Nerds (of course), and Five Alive available for your guests to munch on while they watch the Revenge of the Nerds series as entertainment.
Keep the party theme flowing throughout each aspect of
the event. First, the party invitations set the theme and tone of
the occasion. Some guests will bring gifts based on the Eighties
party theme. Use Eighties
decorations, centerpieces,
tablecovers, Thank you notes, invitations, party supplies, hats, blowouts, confetti,
paper plates, cups, napkins etc. Complete the Eighties party theme
with Eighties party favors.

If you were a child of the 80’s, you’ll have no problem coming up with creative ways of celebrating your roots with some inventive Eighties Party Supplies. Invite your friends with homemade invitations, using photocopies screen shots of Eighties games as your front page (Pac Man, Asteroids, Pong). Give lots of suggestions as to what to wear to your party: jelly bracelets, daisy dukes, leg warmers, and gravity-defying hair are all good starts. Try and rent old video game consoles for everyone to play (or ask around; someone may still have one they’ve kept for nostalgia’s sake), and have lots of different TV options as well (Star Wars, Scooby Doo, Head of the Class and the like). Offer up Dr. Pepper, Capri Sun, Little Debbie Snack Cakes, cheese and cracker snack packs and Velveeta for your guests to snack on. Music should be from the Eightis as well, such as Duran Duran, Madonna, Michael Jackson, hair metal and benefit concerts (We Are the World). Then, have your guests play 80s charades, giving them only phrases, words or ideas that were spawned in the Eighties. “Where’s the Beef?”, Mount St. Helens, Debbie Gibson, the fall of the Berlin Wall, Miami Vice, and ET are ideas to get you started.
