Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. The origin of Grandparents Day goes back to a Virginia housewife named Marian McQuade. She became the champion for the cause of all the lonely and elderly in nursing homes. In 1978 all her efforts paid of when President Jimmy Carter signed for the celebration of a National Grandparents Day. There are three main purposes of Grandparents Day. The first and most important purpose is to honor Grandparents. Second, Grandparents Day gives grandparents a chance to show love for their children's children. The third purpose is to help children become aware of strength, information and guidance older people can offer. Be sure to celebrate National Grandparents Day with all the older people in your life.
