Mardi Gras History Mardi Gras does not represent the whole period of the carnival as many people now believe. Instead it is only the last day of that carnival period. Party Music A couple traditional Mardi Gras songs are Iko Iko, When the Saints Go Marching In and Go to the Mardi Gras. Party Games The internet has printable coloring pages and word scrambles that are Mardi Gras based. Educational Activities A good way to educate the guests about Mardi Gras at the party would be to hand out a trivia packet on the event. Party Crafts There are a few crafts that the kids can make. A easier one would be for them to make masks out of paper plates. Party Colors Purple, green and gold are the three colors associated with Mardi Gras. All three of these colors symbolize something, purple stands for justice, green stands for faith and the gold stands for power. Party Activities One activity that everyone can play a part in is creating a float. Then after the float is complete everyone can gather around it and enter it in the parade. Party Decorations A few Mardi Gras decorations would be beads, masks, flowers, tissue balla, foil bursts, stars, crepe paper, foil curtains, columns and Mardi Gras flags. Costumes There is no set rule on what is allowed and what is not allowed as far as Mardi Gras costumes go. Some people use beads coins,bells, masks and necklace's to make their costumes stand out more. Party Balloons There are many different kinds of Mardi Gras balloons some of them have masks on them or the word Mardi Gras. Other ones are in the shape of a mask or star. Party banners Most Mardi Gras banners include masks, crowns or coins and they tend to stick with purple, gold and green for the main colors of the banner. Party Favors Two of the more common party favors are a horn filled with confetti and a personalized candy bar. Mardi Gras parties are can be really wild and fun but they can also be very family oriented and educational. If you are looking to have an educational event for children then Mardi Gras can be a terrific idea. For these types of events you can have many beads as well as books, pencils, crayons and coloring books to give the children as gifts. You can also have a coloring contests and karaoke for the children to entertain themselves. Imprinted colorful t-shirts and hats are also fun and do great when in pictures. |
