The History of Yom Kippur
Yom Kippur, also known as The Day of Atonement, is a Jewish holiday which is considered to be perhaps one of the holiest holidays for the Jewish people. Yom is Hebrew for “day” and Kippur is a derivative of a root word meaning “to cover or hide” as well as “to obliterate”. This means that the name alone means “Day to obliterate sin”.
Party Location
Yom Kippur is usually celebrated by fasting for 25 hours and attending the Synagogue. However sometimes people decide to throw parties indoors at homes and even churches.
Yom Kippur Educational Activities
As a way to better understand the Jewish holiday many take time on this holiday to sit in prayer as well as refraining from attending work. Educational activities include prayer, fellowship gatherings, and even meditation.
Since Yom Kippur requires a 25 hour fast, meals are served prior to the actual holiday. These consist of high carb foods and lots of dairy in order to help sustain energy and proteins needed to keep the body healthy for the fast. Tofu, milk, and lots of meats are served.
Yom Kippur Party Decor
Items such as The Star of David and even menorahs are used in decorations for Yom Kippur. These are items which represent high aspects of the Jewish religion and are often seen in décor for all Jewish holidays.
Party Colors
Colors that are shades of blue and silver are considered to be the appropriate colors which represent Yom Kippur. These in conjunction with the neutral color white make for excellent colors to use and to incorporate into any Yom Kippur party décor.
Yom Kippur Party Balloons
Balloons in blue and white are often used to add to party décor for Yom Kippur. Also helium filled balloons shaped like menorahs and the Star of David are also used.
Party Favors
Necklaces with the Star of David on them make for great Yom Kippur party favors.
Craft
A fun Yom Kippur craft is to make placemats. By incorporating different aspects of the Jewish religion in your creation, as well as by using the traditional colors of blue, silver, and white these placemats will add pizzas to any party.
Yom Kippur Party Supplies
When it comes to supplies for a Yom Kippur party then pretty much anything goes so long as it is both Jewish as well as traditional colors. This means blue and white balloons, silver table cloths, and even streamers will work great.
Theme Combining
Often people choose to combine both Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) together. This is because of how closely they are together.
Yom Kippur Party Music
When it comes to music for Yom Kippur pretty much anything by Rabbi Chayim B. Alevsky would suffice. This is because his music is specifically for the “High Holidays” in which Yom Kippur is considered to be the highest of. Yom Kippur is a 25 hour fasting celebration in which many get together with friends and family for praying and religious activities. Decorate this event nicely and have holiday imprinted cards with a special message to add some emotion to this acclaimed holiday. Add some ribbon to your cards and make them look lovely.
